CATHOLIC CHURCH SALE OF WORK.

The Sale of Work in connection Avitli the Catholic school and Convent Avas opened on Thursday afternoon by the Rev. Father Forrestal, P.P. In his opening speech the reverend gentleman spoke of the good Avork carried on by the Sisters, not only in the secular and religious training of the children confided to their care, but also, Avhen occasion required, as in the case of the dreadful epidemic of 1918, Avhen they opened the school as an hospital, and Avitli Mrs Hynes, Miss Woodroofe, and Miss Healy, assisted by others, gave themselves up to the care of the stricken and afflicted both night and day,and this agninst the usual customs of their institute. He (Father Forrestal) said that it Avas remarkable that such a Avork got no public* recognition from any local body except from the Labour Association of Foxton. Ho then recommended the Sale of Work, and hoped that it would be the success that was hoped

Theh sale was very well attended on both Thursday and Friday evenings, and all present showed keen interest in the work. The stall-hold-ers were kept quite busy, and the sale of tickets for the rallies .was verv brisk.

Miss Upton’s singing was highly appreciated, she being encored for each of her renderings. The music was of a high-class character’.

Tim running of the art gallery by Mr McDonald and Mr Dunn on Friday afternoon caused so much amusement. that, much to (lie chagrin of the various stall-holders, all the. attention of the audience was for a lime drawn to that quarter. The result of the raffles were as follows: —Cushion, Miss Nesdale, ticket lb 3; autumn leaves cushion, Miss Ivy Hudson, 62; black cat cushion, Mrs Trueman, Wellington, 981; hand-painted screen, Rev. Father Kelly. Ma.naia, 3311; hamlpainled cushion, Mrs Fuller, Foxlon, 187; band-painted picture, air Howe, Mangalmu. Father Forrestal and the Committee desire to thank all (hose who have taken part, in (he work, and are highly pleased Avith the result, socially and financially.

The screen painted by Hiss A\ oodroofe was the admiration of all tiresent, and keen excitement was displayed in the drawing of the winning number.
