DORCAS SOCIETY.

The annual meering of the Dorcas Society was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday last. r l he annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted.

The report: was as follows : —•" Ihe Society was formed in June, .191.9, with a membership of 34. Mrs Baine was elected president, and Airs Al<‘Murray lion, secretary, and the following ladies were appointed a committee: Mesdames Harding, Bredin, Godin, C. Bobinson, A. Boss. B. M'oovc, and Miss Signal. Muring the winter months the Soeicly met on the first and third Friday in each month. The sewing done was eaief]y for children, often made necessary through the sickness of the mother. Altogether six families were assisted with clothing, in each case a member of the committee made an investigation, and help \>a> given in accordance with the recoin-, jnenHation made, t illy-eighl gaimenls were made, or repaired, and sent out, also a number of parcels and old linen. We feel that llm Society has justified ilsiexislence, and would urge llio ladies of 1* oxlmi io give it every assistance possible. The public are requested to report any case (hat needs assistance to any member of the committee, so that same can be attended to. r lhe 'Society is indebted to the late Undies’ Patriotic Guild for handing over ail it's working material, in order to help the Society to get a start; to our local drapers, for parcels oi new material, the Mayor tor a handsome cash donation, 1° Airs Malls for supplying afternoon lea (tree) jo Ihe workers, to Mesdames Hawke and Hamer for lending sewing machines, (he Borough Council for the use of tlie Council Chambers for meeting’s, and to Ihe ninny sympathisers who so kindly sent parcels o[ left-off clothing and food for sick patients." The balance-sheet reads: Keccipts: Mr Chrystall, donation, 'M 4s; per Mrs Baine, 3s (id. Expenditure: Stationary Is, minute book 4s bd, printing 4s, chemist £1 material £3 Bs. Balance of cash in hand, 10s. Airs F. Bobinson was elected president, in succession to Mrs Baine, who is shortly leaving Foxloii. The following committee was elected: Mesdames MeMurray (hon. -sec.), ilalliday, Goffln, Harding, Moore, C. Bobinson, A. Boss, Barr, Pearson, Alsop, and Aliss Signal. It was agreed to meet for sewing every Friday, at 2.30 till 4 o clock. Also that hon. members he admitted to the Society at a fee of 2s (id per annum. Arrangements were made to supply afternoon tea.
