REAL COST TO THE NATIONS. London, June 8. Air Edgar Crammond, lecturing at the Bankers’ Institute, estimated the real cost of the war as follows; — Great Britain .. 3,500,000,000 France 5,450,000,000 Italy 1,500,000,000 Belgium 500,000,000 Germany 8,700,000,000 The cost was equivalent to 12 per cent, of Great Britain’s national wealth, 25 per cent, of that of France, 20 per cent, of that of Italy, and 20 per cent, of that of Germany. He pointed out that the moderate decrease in the wealth of the United Kingdom was offset by the substantial increase in that of the overseas Dominions and possessions. He estimated the wealth of the Empire lit 144,080,000,000, compared with £24.980,000,000 in 1910, and the annual income at £7,050,000,000, compared with £3,332,000,000 in 1910.
