SEVERE WEATHER.
Christchurch, May 20. There has been exceptionally severe weather to-day. A great deal of hail fell during the afternoon, and to-night the whole countryside is white. A good deal of snow has fallen on the high country. Dunedin, May 30.
Severe weather has prevailed here during the past three days, and the temperature is very low. Snow has fallen all over the province, and heavy falls are reported from the high country. On .Saturday at 4 p.m. eighteen inches of snow was lying in Arrowtown, and it was then snowing heavily. At Cromwell very little snow fell on the flats, but the surrounding hills received a heavy coating. Qn the low lands in Upper Clutha snow is lying at a depth of six inches, and at the Kingston Garston, and Athol districts heavy falls have been experienced. The conditions show no sign of improvement. Masterton, Mav 30.
Masterton was visited by a violent south-westerly gale on Saturday night. The wind blew with hurricane force, while rain and hail came down in torrents. The rivers arc in flood, and much low-lying country is under water. Tire gale continues, though it has somewhat abated.
