BENEFIT CONCERT.

The benefit concert in aid of a local ease of distress was held in the. Town Hall last night, hotore a fair and very appreciative audience. The inclement weather and prevailing

epidemic prevented many who had purchased tickets from attending.

Several of the performers, including four members of Air Osborne’s orchestra, could not fulfil their engagement, owing to sickness. An apology for absence was also received from the Mayor (Mr Chrystali), who, however, forwarded a donation to the fund. The stage was tastefully decorated. Nearly every item was encored, and deservedly so, Air Osborne’s orchestra rendered t»yo spirited selections, which were much appreciated. Miss Bryant’s numbers were “The Heart of a Rose” and “In Dreams.” Mr Beale received a battering reception for his two songs, “Salvation Lassie-of Aline” and the “Veteran’s Song.” Air Peter Robinson created roars of laughter with his comic songs, “The Polka,” “Bob Ridley,” and

“Any Rags.” His antics and makeup were immense. The Alaori songsters. Alessrs Hakaraia, McGregor
