FLAXMILL FIRE.

MAKERUA MILL DESTROYED,

Messrs Loughnan and Dalzicll’s (laxmill at Makerua, with the exception of the scutching- shed, avus totally destroyed by lire shortly after midnight last night. The cause of the outbreak is shrouded in mystery. When first seen, the lire appeared to he between the engine and the stripper. There was a high Avind blowing at the time, Avhich quickly fanned the fire, and the whole building Avas soon a mass of (lames. Fortunately the wind Avas hloAving the lire aAvay from the scutching shed, and this building was not damaged-.' 1 There avus some insurance on the building and plant, but the owners’ loss above same is very considerable.

Messrs Louglumn and Dalzicll intend re-building almost immediately.
