HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION.
At last night's meeting of the Borough Council the following circular let ter was read from the Lawrence Borough .Council: —
“At ii meet in"' of the Lawrence Borough Council, held on the 2(ilh insl., the question of the present method of levying upon local bodies for the revenue necessary for (lie maintenance of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards was fully considered and discussed, the outcome being' that the C ouncil agreed that the present system of raising such revenue was inequitable, inasmuch as it unduly taxed property holders, while •allowing those possessing wealth in other forms to escape contribution. It was, therefore, resolved: ‘That in the opiniom of this Council the present system of imposing a levy on local bodies for t he purpose of providing revenue for Hospital and Charitable Aid purposes is inequitable and unduly taxes the holders of town properties, and that the Government he urged to amend the Act in the direction of making the cost of such institutions a charge on the Consolidated Fund of the Dominion/ It was further resolved that a copy of the foregoing resolution he forwarded to the ho rough councils throughout Xow Zealand, asking for their co-operation and assistance in bringing pressure to hear on the Government in the direction indicated through their respective members of Parliament.”
It was decided, on the motion of Crs. Coley and Hunt, that this Council is of opinion that the present Hospital and Charitable Aid Board control of hospitals is preferable to that proposed by the Lawrence Borough Council.
