SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The adjourned meeting of the a-b,:-ve was held in the Council Chamber last night. I’resent : Messrs G. Alexander, Claris, Geo. Coley, Hornblow. IV. Uetrie, I’erreau, Jno. Russ, I’. Kobinsou, and A. Stevenson. Mr I’crreau was voted to tin; chair, ami called for nominations for chairman. Messrs I’erreau and Hornldow were nominated, the former by Messrs P. Robinson and G. Golev, and the hitler by Messrs duo. Koss and Claris. The result of the ballot was in laviiiu' of Mr Hornldow by ;> to J (Mr Stevenson was not present when the ballot was taken).
In thanking the Committee for his election, Mr Hornldow slated that he had been a member of the Committee. and Chairman, except for one year, since llhlH. During I lie whole of that period, except for the piano incident, he had had the confidence and co-operation of those who had worked with, him, and had not done anything which had not met with general approval. So far as the piano incident was concerned, he hoped it would not he again referred to. lie advised Commit teemen to become familiar with tno net and Regulations, wherein their-pow-ers and matters pertaining to the stall’ were, fully defined. If they kept within these hounds there would he no overlapping or misunderstandings. He suggested that the Committee should inspect the school and grounds, and then lay down a policy for a scheme of improvements to Die environment. In bis opinion the carrying on! of such a scheme would cost upwards of c(j(}(), and would take several years to complete. There were one or two matters-of importance they could also discuss with (he Minister when he visited Fox ton. in conclusion, Mr Ilornblow said if he consulted Ids private wishes he would not .have continued his services, but there were, matters of vital..importance to the cause of Education he desired to assist; in bringing about , and when those were consummated he would pass on the work to others. Mr Alexander said so far as the Committee was concerned too much parly and personal feeling had been allowed to creep in, and he. hoped all this would he dropped in the future.
Mr Pcrreau congratulated Mr Ilornblow on being elected chairman, lie said he was the man best lifted to occupy the position. He had opposed Mr Ilornblow for the chairmanship at Due request of his friends, but he felt sure taut e\ei\ihing would work smoothly. Mr H. J. Claris was unanimously eieetod secretary and treasurer, Cheques to he signed by the Chairman and Secretary.
It was decided to meet the lir-t Monday in each month. .Messrs Alexander and Coley were appointed visitors for tae montn. , Ke conveying children to Palmerston on Monday next, on the occasion of the visit ox the Prince of Wales, details were left with the Headteacher, Chairman, Secretary, and Mr Perreau. Other matters were discussed, and Dio meeting rose,
