RIVER CONTROL.
MEETING AT- PALMERSTON. A meeting of owners and occupiers of land within the flooding areas of the Manawatu and Oroua. rivers was held yesterday. There was a large attendance, over which Mr J. Liggins presided. The following resolution was carried: —“That a River Board he formed over the area defined by the Government scheme of 1908 for (he purpose of straightening and improving i,he channels of *j the Mafia, wain and Oroua rivers, &T and constructing overflow cut's where necessary, and that the said River Board’s area be subdivided into live separate ridings or districts for local purposes, and that a petition he forthwith prepared for signature, such petition to contain a, clause providing that the River Board’s powers he limited to prevent interference with any protective or designed work now constructed or in course of construction and approved.” It is necessary to have a petition drawn up and signed in order to take steps to ha.ve the Board constituted, and Messrs W. 43. V, Pearce, N. P. Nelson, R, T. Bell, .). Richardson and J. Chryslall were appointed to attend to the matter.
