SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION

The annual meet in'-- of householders to elect a School Committee for the ensuing term was held last night. The meeting’ was advertised to he held in the Masonic Hull, Hie manager, of The C. M. Ross Co., Ltd., having agreed to shift the .goods from the centre of; the building in order to make room for the householders. Over 200 people, a immhcr of whom were not entitled to vote, were in attendance, however, and it was found that the space available was too small. Mr Permit!, chairman of the retiring committee, said that he had communicated with the Education Board as lo what should he done if all the people could not he accommodated in I he building and had received advice that the meeting could adjourn lo another building if so decided by resolution. To put the meeting in order he asked those present to elect a chairman, tp which position llic Mayor (Mr J. Chrystall) was elected. ll was then moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn to the Town Hall supper-room. This was carried unanimously. 'The people filed out and made (heir way to (lie supper-room, the accommoda-' lion in which was found inadequate, and a number of people had to stand in the alleyway.

The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. The report stated that 13 ordinary and ten special meetings were held during the year; the school had been completed, hut was not yet occupied, owing to the delay in supplying furniture. Arrangements were being made lo have the school opened by the Minister for Education. A good deal of work will require to he done to the grounds to bring them in keeping with the building. An honours hoard, the funds for which were contributed by “old hoys,’’ has been creeled to the memory of old hoys who made the supreme sacnlice in the Great War. The school work dauc during the year reflected credit upon the sir,if, who haul been handicapped with temporary and scattered class rooms. The school fair fund would provide many extras. The report also dealt with other matters of minor importance.
