We hear a great deal about tjj.e amount of petty thieving that goes on 'in Fox ton, but apparently other towns are as bad, if not worse off, in this respect. Last week a well known settler at Awapuni had his potato patch raided, a horse and dray being used to lake away the .-.pods. Another resident had the misfortune to’lose 1,200 feet of thigher from a stack required for the erection' of a new home. The thieves on this occasion used a motor lorry to carry away the timber. Another farm had 150 pullets stolen, it has been said that in some places, if you don’t keep your mouth shut your teeth will be stolen from your mouth. In Levin the thieves are nearly as bad as that, and while there has so far been no complaint from anyone who has lost their teeth, a property owner there has lost six heavy posts that had.been placed securely in position. During the night they were drawn from the ground and taken away. A night or two afterwards another resident tethered his horse out on a long length of rope, but found next day that theWope had been cut close up to the post, and a short piece had also been left dangling from' the horse’s neck.- The long piece in between had disappeared. Thi- owner is not ungrateful, as he says ho has still got his horse and the post.
