RIFLE SHOOTING.

MATCH WITH THE HAUTBRB RIFLE CLUB. Last Saturday a. team from the local Club journeyed to Hautere Cross (near Otaki), for a match with that Club for the .Fresh Food and lee Co’s. Cup. Although the local Club failed to bring hack the coveted prize, the contest was interesting, and the outing a most enjoyable one. There were a number of ladies in attendance, who provided afternoon tea and eatables before ami after shooting. Their efforts were warmly appreciated by all, and thanks is due to them and the Hautere Chit) for their kind hospitality. Thanks is also due to Mr Head, for conveying the team to Hautere. After the match there were the usual reciprocal speeches of appreciation and thanks, and cheers for the opposing teams brought to an end a very pleasant afternoon.

The Hautere range is a very good one, facing east. The Hautere team put up an excellent shoot, making the high average of 90. Some of the local men were not in their best form, and this, combined with a fresh cross-wind of a kind they, are unfamiliar with, and the lack of a mound to lie on, was no doubt partly responsible for the results, whiedi are as follows: — Yds. Next Saturday the last shoot for Mr Parkes’ .medal will lie held at ranges of 500 and 600 yards.
