SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the local Stale School Committee Avas held last night. Present: "Messrs Perrcun (chairman), Claris, Coley, TiornIjloav, Robinson, Ross, Parkin. McMurray, and the head teacher. Correspondence avus read and received from the Board of a formal nature. A letter was received from the Palmerston Committee re entertaining .school children at Palmerston on the occasion of the visit of the Prince of Wales. It Avas decided to make enquiries re the free carriage of the children to Palmerston. The head teacher suggested that only children from Standard 111. upAvards be taken, under the supervision of the teachers, and that the infants, :f it is desired that they should go, be under the supervision of parents. Other details Avere left in the hands of the head teacher. The Secretary submitted a private letter from the agents of the school piano re its origin. A letter was receded from the head teacher re an inspection of the piano by a committee man and lavo cx-committee men, and alleging that in the course of the inspection the class Avork Avas interfered Avith, and that the piano was tampered with. Mr HornbloAv said the class teacher was first consulted, and aa’lio said the inspection avouUl nut interfere Avith the class Avork. The front hoard had not been placed.back m 'position, but this avus subsequently done. The head teacher asked that the matter be referred to the Board, Avliieh Avas unanimously agreed to. Mr Coley moved that the Board be asked to ascertain whether the piano Avas of German manufacture, and if so to have same replaced by an English -piano. He said any extra money required for this purpose would be subscribed. It Avas decided to top-dress the tennis court, and have the hedge trimmed. The head teacher's report Avas read and adopted, and other routine matters dealt Avith.
