BODY SEEN FLOATING IN THE MANAWATU RIVER.
Passengers on I hi' up Now Plymoulh express, when crossing' t]ie railwuy bridge at Longburn, yesterday, noticed a body floating down the river. The Palmerston police were notified, and a constable was sent out to make investigations. The body, however, was not seen by the constable, and it has probably been carried further down, or held by a. snag. The police are of opinion that t ho body may be that of a Mr Gillies, who has been missing from Palmerston for some time, and. for the recovery of which a reward of £SO is offered, or it may be the body of Deeley, who is wanted in connection with the murder of .Mrs Webby. The spot at which the body was seen is about 70 miles from Foxton along the water course, and if not snagged, should make its appearance in this locality some time today. The police request any one occupied along the water front, or at the heads, to keep a sharp loog-out.
