LAND AGENT’S LICENSE.
QUESTION OF CHARACTER AND 'FINANCIAL STABILITY.
Christchurch, Alareh 21
In- Hie Magistrate’s Court an application made by Alfred A\ery, cm behalf of Craddock’s Agency Company, Ltd,, for the renewal of a land agent’s license, was opposed by the Land Agents’ Association on the ground that the applicant was an habitual non-payer of debts, and that during Hie past or eight years sixty or seventy summonses had been served on him from various sources.
The magistrate said that the primary duty of the court in such eases wns to protect the public. AYhile a person might be a lit man to hold a license, the court had to'consider the question of his finances, as an agent in poor financial circumstances was open to tempiation. There was nothing in the present ca.se againsl flic character of Hie .applicant, but ii had been'shown that ho had been sued for various accounts, and at, the present time was owing a matter of £7.5 on a land transaction. In view of these circumstances he could not see his way to grant the application, which was accordingly refused.
