THE STRATFORD ELECTION.
Strut Cord, March 17. When the Election Court resumed after 1 ho luncheon adjournment, the Bench announced that tin examination of the eounlerfoils would ho ordered to ascertain what counterfoils were not numbered. Books with unnumbered counterfoils would not necessarily he rejected, hut the information was needed in view of legal argument. Later Mr Myers closed his ease after examining alien voters, and Sir John Findlay open with similar witnesses. The posilion of these aliens will be argued later. On the Court resuming this morning il was decided to proceed no lurther with the examination with regard to aliens, as il was held that nothing which, could be proved would affect the result. Mr Myers accepted (he oilier side’s estimate of the actual majority of sixteen, il till the votes objected to were allowed. 'Che recount showed that 22 soldier votes had been found without the necessary application in writing. 'Cite main evidence for the rc>l mu del 1 1 is. now proceeding. James McAllister, member of lie orchcslra uti October 30th, gave evidence that he arranged for the music and paid for il out of his own pocket. Under cross examinalion, McAllister said he was not annoyed when MV Fox told him he had told Mr Young he thought Mr Gardiner paid for lh<‘ music, lb; thought Mr Fox was foolish, hut witness wa* not annoyed, because Mr Fox had admitted that he had been paid. Witmess got the receipt, as he was expecting trouble. He expected this trouble owing to I lie private enquiry which seemed to be going mi. Henry Gardiner, employed by Masters, Ltd., who aided as secretary of Mr Masters’ clccliim committee, denied authorising the advertisement regarding the free pielure:-, though Mr Ward had asked him if he intended to do so. At the election Court, Mr Robert Mm-ters gave evidence that be bad made no payment lor the music at the meeting on October 301 h, and he gave no instructions for showing the pic)arcs on December Kith. lie did not regard the pictures as any hciieiil. and thought he could till (he hah without pictures. After counsels addresses, the Court adjourned til! 3 p.m. to-morrow, when the decision will he given.
