PRINCE OF WALES.

ARRIVAL GX 17th APRIL. DETAILS OF ITINERARY. A statement regarding the programme for the visit of the Prince of. Wales has been made by Sir Francis Bell, as follows ; . The programme of the visit of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to New Zealand has very recently been definitely settled. It was found necessary to postpone (he announcement of the dates of His Royal Highness’ arrival at and departure from the places where he will stay until provisional arrangements could he made for the hotel accommodation necessary for thePrince and his suite. As His Royal Highness will only lie twenty-seven days in the Dominion; there has been, considerable difficulty in arranging his course of travel, and it must he clearly understood that no proposals for variation of the programme can now bo entertained. It is hoped that the public generally throughout New Zealand will join,in the desire of (lie Government that His Royal Highness should be treated in all respects as' the guest of the Dominion, and that no undue calls should lie made upon him to perform -official functions. His Royal Highness has himself expressed a desire to see the people rather than the sights, and the Government will endeavour to meet his. wishes. Requests have already been received from all parts of New Zealand that the Prince should lay foundationstones or unveil memorials, it will lie impossible in the limited period oi the visit to find time for ceremonies of that nature, even during the three or four days of stay at the principal cent res. in accordance with His Royal llighness’’express request, arrangements will ho made Lor returned soldiers to assemble at the prineinal plaecs of stay, and also at places where it is reasonably possible for the Royal (rain to stop for from a quarter to half an hour. Similar arrangements will be made for assemblages of school children, il must, however, be noted that returned soldiers or children will oiiK be conveyed by special trains from distances sufficiently limited to enable a return special train to convey (limn to their homes on the same day. At' Rotorua the Maoris will assemble in large numbers, the Government undertaking the arrangements necessary to ensure a titling Native reception to tin* I’rim-e. . It is (.desired that arrangements for local reception and entertainment at each place of visit should be proposed by the local aulhoiilies and residents, though such arrangements must neces.-mrily be submitted to and have the approval of the Government before being tinally decided upon.. The Government, will propose the Parliament provision for a subsidy of £ for £ upon approved expenditure incurred by local authorities for the purpose. A full'programme of the ('.(‘tails of the several public intertainnionl.-' am! functions proposed will be published later, but in the meantime it should be known that His Royal I Ugliness will lie the guest of the Governor-General at the Government House during the slay at Auckland, at (lie Government House during the slay at Wellington, ami at “Elmwood” during the slay tit Christchurch, ttnd nt all other places, including Rotorua, His Royal xiighnesi will he the guest of the Government. ■ Details of the tour are: — April 37: Arrive Auckland.
