DEATH OF LORD PLUNKET.
The death is reported from London of Lord ITunket, ex-Guveruor of New Zealand, aged 56/ [Lord William Lee Plunket succeeded Lord Ranfurly as Governor of New Zealand in 1904. He arrived in New Zealand on 20th June of that year, and, during his residence here, attained considerable popularity. The late Lord Pluukqt was born in Canada in 1864, and succeeded to the title as fifth baron in 1897. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Dublin, and gained his B.A, degree. Later he acted as private secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland from 19DD to 1904. He also served in the diplomatic service as Hon. -Attache to the Embassy at Rome from 1889 to 1892, and at Constantinople from 1892 to 1894. He married in 1894, Lady Victoria Alexandria, youngest daughter of the late Alarquis 01. Dufferin and Ava. Lord Plunket came of an illustrious family. His father was (he Most Rev. William Conyngham Plunket, D.D., L.L.D., Archbishop of Dublin, and Primate of Ireland, one of the most distinguished prelates, of .-his time. His mother was Anne Lee, eldest daughter of Sir Benjamin Lee Guinnes, Bart., and sister of Lords Ardilen and Iveagh. His Lordship was a prominent Freemason, and was Grand Master for. New Zealand.
