DISTRESSING ACCIDENT.
MOTOR FATALITY AT TARATAHI WEST.
Master-ton, Yesterday
A distressing accident occurred at Taratahi West on Friday last, in which Mrs Louisa Hay, aged 45 years, the wife of Mr Janies B. Hay, mill engineer, of Carterton, received fatal injuries. Mr Hay was returning from Mount Holds wort h in a two-seater He Dion car, accompanied by his wife and six-yeur-old daughter, when the car struck a. culvert near (he edge of the hank. The driver endeavoured to right the machine, when it ran into a bank, twisting one of the front wheels. The car ran along the side of the hank for about twenty-four yards before it was pulled up. Mr Hay Hum noticed that his wife was not by liis side, and, looking hack, found her lying face downwards on the road.
Mr Every, one of a picnic parly, who was motoring some distance ahead, noticed the accident, and immediately returned and rendered assistance. He found Airs Hay in an unconscious condition, and drove her into Carterton, where she was attended by Dr. Johnston. It was found that the unfortunate woman had sustained concussion oi: the brain, a fractured collar-bone, and two broken ribs. She lingered in an unconscious condition until 4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, when she expired.
An inquest was held yesterday, before Mr 11. M. B. Trapp, J.P.. act-ing-Coroner, and a verdict was returned that deceased met her death in a motor accident, no blame being attachable to the driver.
