A MIRACULOCS ESCAPE

The Chief Secretary for Ireland announced in (he House of Commons that four bombs were thrown at Lord French from behind a hedge in Phoenix Park. The military escort tired, killing one of the attackers who was in the road. He had (wo revolvers in his possession. A. bullet wounded a detective in the hand while he was attempting to lire a revolver. Gun lire also wounded a constable on duty at a crossroads in the vicinity. The murderers, after rapid shooting, ‘escaped. The country would be glad that Lord French was uninjured —(Cheers)- — and would extend its sympathy to the men who were wounded and killed in discharging their duty. Lord French had Just arrived from the West of Ireland, and was drivimr from Asldown Station to Dublin Castle when the assassin lived. It is oHi (dally announced that Viscount French is unhurt. Asldown is a suburban village, on the northern outskirts of Phoenix Park, in a desolate district. A gang of fifteen to twenty assasins were hiding in the fields by the roadside when Lord French’s motor ear appeared. The mounted escort was some distance behind, hut was summoned by a woman who was driving Lord French's baggage. Hearing shots, she quickly drove back, and the escort galloped up and found the assassins decamping across the fields in the direction of Dublin City. Xoue was arrested. Lord French had a miraculous escape, three bullets penetrated the motorear. and bullets also shattered the ear following Lord French’s, wounding the driver. The escort's fire only brought down and killed one of the running men, upon -whom a bomb and two loaded revolvers were found.
