BOWLING.

On Saturday a Foxton rink visited Pahiatua to play the holders of flic Dixon Cup. The green was in tip-top condition, but a hehvy wind blowing made play rather difficult. The game throughout was very close, the biggest difference in the scores at any time being only four paints, and that when eight heads had been played, Foxton 8 Pahiatua 4. The scoring was even after the third head, three all, fourteenth head 12 all, seventeenth head 14 all, nineteenth head 16 all, and twentylirst head 18 all. An extra head was necessary lo decide the game, and on this the home team scored one. The visitors were very hospitably treated by the Pahiatua players. The teams were as under;— Walsh D. Whihley Hcwat (s) 19 Nye (s) IS It is an open question whether, m a match for a challenge trophy, when the scores are even alter the twenty-first head had been played, an extra head should be played to decide who shall hold the trophy. Tl is claimed by many that the holders of a trophy should retain possession if the scores are even, and others again consider another head should be played. This position arose at Pahiatua on Saturday, when the scores were even after the twentyfirst head in the Dixon Cup match. Mr Hewa.lt and the members of his team, however, expressed - the opinion that if would bo most unsportsmanlike not to play a deciding head. In returning thanks at the conclusion of the match for the hospitable treatment received by the visiting team, Mr F. Whihley expressed the Foxton players’ appreciation of the sportsmanlike altitude taken up by the Pahiatua players. Dr. Paterson, in replying, said he did not think any (cam deserving of Hie name of “sports” could act differently (ban Ihev bad done in (bis matter, and he was certain that under similar circumstances the Foxton playeiswould have done Hie same.'

For the Wanganui Bowling Centre’s Christmas Tournament, to be held on Friday, Saturday and Monday, December 2(ith, 27th and 20ih, 41 rinks have entered. Foxton will l>e represented by one rink; Roore, Barr, Nye, F. Whibley (s).
