Darwin, Decemb. 10.
Captain Ross-Smith arrived at 3.40 pan. He landed at Ataraboewa, Timor, at 3.30 pan. on Tuesday, and left for Darwin at 8.30 the next morning. The 1 cruiser Sydney wirelessed that Captain Ross-Smith passed over the ship 180 miles north of Darwin at 1 o’clock to-day.
The landing was spectacular. Ho received a tremendous welcome. The Mayor presented an address on behalf of the citizens. The aviator, in replying, said: “I hoped to make the journey in thirty days, and am proud to have accomplished it in twenty-eight.”
Despite the influenza regulations to the contrary, the crowd rushed the aviators, and carried them sho-ulder-high from the ground. Owing to ihe citizens' hampiet to-night, the Sun's story is not available till 1 0-morrow.
Captain Ross-Smith crossed the coast of Australia at twenty minutes past 3 o’clock this afternoon, and loss than half an hour later lielanded on Australian soil at the Fanny Bay aerodrome (three miles north of Darwin), and the flight from London to Australia was over. The aviators have still to cross the continent, hut that is a minor matter after crossing parts of three continents and of two oceans. The actual flight time from London to Darwin was 124 hours, and the average speed was about 85 miles an hour.

Captain Boss-Smith left London at 9.10 a.in. on Pith November, and arrived at, his various stops on the following dates: —Lyons, Pith November; Pisa, 13th November; Rome, lOlh November; Taranli, Kith November; Snda Fay, 17th November; Gairo, 1 Sth November; Damascus, (9th November; Ramadie, 20th November; Basra, 20th November; Bushire, 23rd November; Bandar' Abbas, 24th November; Karachi, 2-1 ih November; Delhi, 25th November; Allahabad, 261 h November; Calcutta, 281 It November: Akyab, 29th November; Rangoon, 301 h November; Bangkok, Ist December; Singora, 2nd December; Singapore, 4th December; Kalidjati, 6th December; Sonrabaya, 7lh December; Timor, 9th December; Darwin, 10th December.
To win the £IO,OOO prize offered hv the Australian Federal Government, the High! must he completed in 720 consecutive hours, ending not later than mid-night on 31st December, 1920. A landing on any part ol Australia would meet the conditions of the competition. Pilots and crews must be of Ausinilian nationality as defined by the laws of the Commonwealth, and the complete aeroplane and ds component parts, must have been constructed within the coniines of the British Fmpire, though there are no restrictions ;is to the sources whence (lie raw material is obtained. To meet the cases of competitors who might be prejudiced by the postponement 01. the flight from the date it was originally proposed, it was determined (hat those who were exmembers of the Australian or Royal Flying Corps should be paid equivalent rales to those provided for members of the A.I.F. Flying Corps from the date of notification ut; entry To the date fixed for permission (o commence the flight, and that civilian competitors, upon demonstration that they laid been financially prejudiced, should be similarly treated.
