ROYAL PICTURES.
In “The Atom,” the star- feature of to-night’s programme, Pauline Starke presents a remarkable portrayal of a little boardinghouse slavey wh'o falls in love with a matinee idol, and sells “Oldsons Death Defying Pellets” with him on a tour across the. country, when all his friends have failed him, Harry Mestayer plays the matinee idol in a thoroughly convincing manner, while Belle Bennett makes an attractive villainess. The rest of the caste is admirably ehosen, and the picture is a combination of pathos and humour thaf has the additional value of being novel as to plot. For to-morrow and Thursday nights, the Goldwyn special feature, “Fighting Odds,” has been secured. “Fighting Odds’ is the story of-a young business man who has succeeded in a large way as a manufacturer, largely through co-opera-tive ideas suggested by his wife. He disregards her advice, combines with monopoly interests, and is made the sacrificial victim of their greed. He is framed by getting his signature to a doctored statement of financial resources, and jailed, while the real villain escapes. The wife now undertakes to rescue him and punish the guilty. She does so by using sex influence, and she goes to the villian’s rooms at midnight to get the incriminating papers, finally obtaining justice and releasing her husband. There will also he shown as an extra the fourth episode of the great serial, “The Railroad Raiders.”
