MEMORIAL TO FALLEN MAORI SOLDIERS.

Ongarue, Yesterday

The proceedings in connect ion with (lie unveiling of the memorial to fallen Maori soldiers belonging to the Maniapoto and Taupo tribes yesterday was deeply impressive. There Avas a religious - service in Maori, with a choir singing Maori hymns. Two hundred names Avere inscribed on marble tablets. The obelisk Avas topped by a flagstaff, from Avhieli Jioated The British ensign, the Maori Nag, the French, Belgian, Italian and American Hags. Eighty returned Maori soldiers, in uniform, Avere present. .The Hon. Dr. Pomare, Mr W. Jennings, M.P., and Major (Salmon, O.C. Maoris at Gallipoli, delivered addresses.
