PROPOSED CLUB.
A meeting Avas held in the Town Hall supper-room last night for the purpose of considering the advisability of opening a Men’s Club in Foxton. Mr M. E. Perreau was voted to the chair. The chairman said he did not know what steps had already been taken in connection with the matter, and asked the conveners of the meeting to explain Avhat had been done.
Messrs Woodroofe and Admoro said that a large number of people bad expressed a Avish for a club to lie opened, and they had"mentioned the mailer to a number of prominent citizens, who considered that sin effort should be made to start one. The meeting had been convened to decide Avhat should be done. Mr Raine asked if there was any definite scheme to put before the
meeting. Air Woodroofe said the meeting Avas only a preliminary one. There avus talk of forming a relumed soldiers’ club, and he thought perhaps it would be more satisfactory if one (dub could be obtained to cater for all.
The project was favourably received hy those presen I, and after some discussion the “following committee was set up to go thoroughly into the matter and draAV up a scheme to he submitted at a meeting to be held later: Messrs Woodroofe (convener), Rider, Alooriiuuse, Shera, Jackson and Admoro.
At a meeting of the committee held subsequently it was decided to make a canvass of (be town and district, and endeavour to get H )() members to each lake up a debenture of £5, and that a committee of management be formed from the debenture holders. That the membership fee he 42 2s Od per annum, and with an entrance fee of fl" is Od, returned soldiers half fees. Ail members to be elected by ballot.
