CORRESPONDENCE.

f —— , (To the Editor.) Sir. — Subscriptions are being solicited for a-dinner to be given to local returned soldiers’. While senne sort of public welcome home is perhaps better late than never, I think that a permanent memorial would have been*ti more sensible idea. Filling up the boys with tea and'cakes and affording an opportunity to a few to reiterate' the same old platitudes is out-of-date. I was told that the dinner is to cost £SO, and in my opinion that money would be belter spent in a Foxton memorial. —Yours, etc.,

INTERESTED,
