LORI) JELLICOE’S REPORT

CO-OPERATION WITH BRITAIN

AND AUSTRALIA

' The report of Admiral Viscount Jelliooe on the naval defences of New Zealand was presented in the House of Representatives by the Prime Minister on Thursday. Briefly, the recommendations are that Xew Zealand should join with Groat Britain and Australia, for the maintenance of a Far Eastern Fleet. Xew Zealand should have its own division, comprising light cruisers and submarines, to be manned as far as, possible-by New Zealanders. In addition, there should be harbour defences, uf which the most important,feature are trawlers for use us mine-sweepers. The annual cost to New Zealand would commence at £357,100 in 1920-21, and increase gradually to £.1,106,100 in 1925-26, when the scheme would be complete.
