ORGY OE SPECULATION
“Will the Prime Minister give instructions to the Valuation Department that in every instance where farm properly has changed bauds at advanced prices it will be valued for taxation purposes on that basis?"-asked Mr J. T. M. Hornsby i Wairarapa) in the House on Wednesday. Such a system, lie urged, would do much to cheek the present orgy of speculation.
Mr Massey: 1 agree that there is far too much speculation in land, and am afraid the effect will not be in the interests of the country presently. (Hear, hear.) But I have discussed this point with the head of the department, and ho has assured me that lie takes no notice ol these extreme prices paid for land. He tells me, and 1 agree with him, that it is belter to take a general average than to pay attention to these extreme prices.
