CROQUET.
The official opening of the local croquet lawn look place yesterday afternoon. The lawn, which had been top-dressed and re-sown during tiie oil-season, was in capital condition, and compares favourably with any oilier croquet lawn in the district. Dr, Mandl, president of the Bowling Club, in his opening speech, referred to the improvement made in the croquet lawn, which last year had been enlarged. The efforts of Mrs Woods were responsible for this improvement,' she having taken the matter in hand and collected donations sufficient to carry out same. The thanks of the Club were due to her, the enlarged lawn being a great improvement on what previously obtained. Visitors were present from Manawatn and I’eilding. The Levin Chib would also have been represented, blit the invitation forwarded jo them was mislaid at that end, and did not reach the right quarters until too late to make the necessary arrangements. Twenty-minutes tournaments for Ajind B players was held, Mrs Warburton (Manawatn) winning the A section, and Mrs Bryant (Boxton) the B section. The following are the scores of each player: —A section. —Airs WarburIdU 9, Mrs Lines 8) Airs Parkcs 5, Miss Ellis 3, Airs AlcColl 3, Airs Wilson 3, Airs AleCreal 2, Airs Patterson 1, Airs Healey 1, Airs Woods 0. B. Section. —Airs Bryant 9, Airs Fitzherbert 5, Airs Jones 4, Airs Pearson 2.
In the absence of the ladies’ secretary (Mrs Perreau), all arrangements were carried out by Mesdames Pearson and MeColl.
