Tiio secretary of ihe M ellinglon Acclimatisation Society has received won! that a while crane has taken up its quarters oti Mr John Bar-, joii’s station at Motaikoua, Mbakatiki, near Castlepoiul. Steps are being taken to secure its sataty. These hints are serially protected by law, and anyone destroying one is liable hi a heavy penally. M hite cranes are rare birds, are nearly always a lorn 1 , and are regarded as luck-bringers.
