THE HEALTH OF THE SCHOOL CHILDREN.
SEPTIC TANK SANITARY SYSTEM.
About three years ago the local School Committee considered the question of a septic tank sanitary system at the school, in place of the pan system. Estimates of the cost, which included an artesian horc, were submitted, hut the total cost was considered 100 high for the authorities’ sanction. After the school was destroyed by lire, and when plans were being prepared for Hie new school, I lie Ihcn Chairman of Committee conferred witli the architect, who promised to embody them in the new scheme, and endeavour to have them included in the grant-.for the new school. At lust night’s meeting of (be School Committee, Mr Hodge, Ihe Board's-ar-chitect, was in attendance, and this subject was discussed at length. 'Mr Hodge said the scheme, including an artesian bore, would cost about £OOO. He was prepared to submit: all details to the Board at its next meeting, but be could nol say whether the Board would bear the cost of the work. It was pointed out that proper sanitary arrangements were of vital importance to (he health of the children, and the cost of same should be undertaken by the .Department, It was decided lo urge' this upon the Board, and failing their carrying out the work, that the matter be submitted to the Minister by a deputation.
