PROFITEERS SHOULD PAY
THE DIFEERENCE IN SOLDIERS’ gratuity; Christchurch, Sept. 23, At a largely-attended meeting of relumed soldiers to discuss the gra(uilv scheme, a motion was- carried to the effect that if the gratuity must be paid by the country Is (id was considered sufficient, but at the same time it was thought that means .should be available to the Government- for deriving from Avar profiteers sufficient to pay the amount of gratuity asked for by the deputation in Wellington. The tone of the meeting was good and orderly throughout. The general feeling was that the Is Gd gratuity adequate, but the motion was carried as a protest against profiteering.
