RETURNED SOLDIERS AT VARIANCE.

SPLIT WITH NATIONAL

At a meeting of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association on Friday evening, Mr J. McKenzie gave notice to move at the next meeting: “That the members of this Association instruct the executive to cancel their affiliation with the National Executive, on the ground of the president of that body (Dr. Boxer) being diloyal to the returned soldiers of this Dominion.” Mr Sievwright gave notice of motion as follows for next meeting: “That it be an instruction to the executive of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association to supply a return to the meeting to be held on Friday, 2(ith September, 1919, showing: (1) The names of those who compose the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association; (2) the war service of such gentlemen, stating rank and unit, date of departure, and time absent from New Zealand, and where served; (3) the salaries or other payments, if any, of such gvutlciucu, from funds of Returned Soldiers’ Association; (!) I he* Government appointments of officers, if any, held hy such genllemen, and (he salaries or payments being received in respect of such appointments or offices; '(5) -whether the motor car, which it is alleged is being purchased hy Mr Seymour, the secretary of the said Executive Committee, is’being paid for wholly or partly out of the funds of Die Returned Soldiers' Association.” A member moved that Mr Sievwrivlit’s motion he not received.

A lengthy discussion took place during which it was disclosed that there was a difference of opinion as to enquiring into the matters proposed by Mr Sievwright,. one member stating that lie (Mr Sievwright) had only recently returned and was plainly in ignorance of much of Dio work which had been done by Die New Zealand Relumed Soldiers’ Associal ion. The motion that the notice of motion hy Mr Sievwright he not received was then put, and, on a show of hands, was declared lost hy 117 voles to 97.
