Gisborne, Sept. 22. r A sensational shooting affray occurred on Saturday night. A returned soldier named Alfred Fastwood and another man named Whiteley saw a man named Thomas Lines carrying some timber which they believed he had taken from sewerage works in the vicinity. They asked him where lie was taking it to, and Lines, it is alleged, retorted; “If you don’t get away 1 will shoot you.” Producing a revolver he is alleged to have shot Eastwood in the groin. Passers-by bailed Lines up against a fence and relieved him of the weapon and detained him till the police arrived. Lines was arrested on charges of theft and causing bodily harm. It is believed that the injuries to Eastwood will not prove serious.
