FOXTON RACING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of members of the Foxton Racing Club was held on Thursday evening. There was only a small attendance, Mr W. E. Barber (vice-president) occupying the chair. Apologies for absence Vere received from the President (Mr J. R. Whyte), and several members of the Club. The annual report and balancesheet (reviewed in Thursday’s issue) were adopted. On moving their adoption, the Chairman said he was pleased to again report a- very successful year. Notwithstanding an increase of £350 in. the stakes, a profit of £579 4s lid had been made on the one clay race meeting. The amount received for nominations and acceptances showed the substantial increase over the previous year of £109; there was an increase of £7 18s 6d in the amount of members' subscriptions, also £7 4s 9d in the gate receipts, and £22 6s 9d more was received last year from race cards than the year before. The totalisator bandied the sum of £25,412, an increase of £417, During the year improvements to the value of £429 S.s 3d had been carried out. The. coming season would see the Club again racing on two clays, and given good weather, with the regular train service restored, he had no doubt the Club would experience another good season. The following officers were elected for the ensiling year; —Patron, Mr F. Robinson ; timekeeper, Mr E. E. Smith, and failing bis acceptance, Mr T. J, Mahon; clerk of scales, Mr J. V. Burr; clerk of course, Mr G, Coley Junr.; hon. surgeon, Dr. Mandl. A list of the other officers elected appeared last issue. Mr L. Freeman brought up the question of tho desirability of the re-introduction of the double totalisator. Other clubs had passed resolutions favouring its re-introduc-tion, and be thought tho local Club could not do .belter than follow suit. He moved that this Club consider it is desirable, iu the interests of racing generally, and of the State, that legislation shquld be passed by which' use of'the double totalisator by racing clubs be instituted. This was seconded, and carried unanimously.
The following new 'members were elected: —Messrs E. and L. C. Bryant and S. W. Barber.
The question of the advisability of introducing the ten-shilling tota lisa tor at the local meeting was discussed, and a resolution was passed recommending the incoming committee to take this matter into
consideration. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
