FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report to be presented at the annual general meeting of the Foxton Bowling Club to-morrow night:— “Your Committee have pleasure in submitting the .statement of receipts and expenditure for the 191819 season, and in doing so desire to congratulate the Club on the very satisfactory position disclosed. Tw receipts from all sources totalled £139 Is Od, an increase of £43 7s Od over the previous year. The expenditure exceeded that of the previous year by £46 5s Id, but of this amount over £35 was expended on property improvements. The bank overdraft has been reduced to £96 11s lOd, and the Club’s assets now exceed the liabilities by £426 12s 9d. At a special general meeting of members held on May Bth, the Committee’s recommendations for improvements to the pavilion and grounds were adopted, and the scheme is now practically completed. H includes a verandah to the pavilion and a rustic summerhouse. The whole of the work was done voluntarily by Club members, and the thanks of the Club as a whole are due to those who carried out same. As a result of their efforts the appearance of the Club’s property has been greatly added to. During the season 23 new members were elected. Tt is with great regret that we have to record the death of our late worthy honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr L. E. Large, who passed a\vay during the epidemic. His cheery personality has been greatly missed; on the green, and your Committee feel that his place can never quite be tilled. We also have to record the loss of another old member through death in the person of the late Mr Lazaretto; The Club was represented at the opening of practically ail the greens in the district, and , during the season home and home matches were played with the various clubs. Your Committee recommends that an endeavour should be made to arrange annual interchanges of visits with all the clubs in the district, as we feel sure that nothing can further the interests of bowling more than these friendly games, as it gives all the young players an opportunity of visiting other greens. In common with other clubs in the Manawatu Centre, your Club was represented at the Champion of Champions contests, and were successful in getting into the final in the singles, and in semi-finals in the rinks. The Club’s pairs competition, for two gold medals kindly presented by Mr W. Adams, was won by Messrs E. Jackson and E. D. Whibley. The ladies’ croquet lawn, which was enlarged last year, was thoroughly top-dres-sed and re-sown during the autumn, and should be in real splendid playing order this season. The catering arrangements worked very satisfactorily, and the thanks of the members of the Club are due to the ladies for their efforts in this eon-, neetiou. During the season keen interest was taken in the games for the Nye Ferns, particularly at the latter end of the_ season, when the Colts tfeam (Messrs Jno. Ross, McKnight, Kaine, and Huntley) won the trophies. Your Committee desires to congratulate these young players on their success. Very lit- j tie interest was taken in the ladder -y* competition, and it is recommended that some alteration be made in same to create more interest. The Committee are submitting some am-. ; endments tb.lhe existing rules, and hope same will be adopted. At a meeting held on January 6th, Mr [; D. ‘Christie was elected secretary and treasurer, and Mr A. Hawkewas appointed to the vacancy ontSfc Committee, In conclusion, your Committee desire to thank all members for their assistance during tho past year, and trust that the’eoming season’s operations will be as sue-, cessful as the past. ,
