SENIOR WOODWORK CLASS.
The senior woodwork classes conducted locally in connection with the technical division of the Wanganui Education Board continue to be well * attended, and promise to become in- W . creasingly popular' in the future. A striking feature of these classes is the rapid way in which the pupils acquire IhE knowledge enabling t hem -ji to construct a wide variety, of nr- ’' tides of furniture, and to do so with pleasing workmanship and finish. From time to time various articles have been on exhibition in the window of the workroom in Manchester House building, which have given the public some idea of -r the class of articles constructed, and the variety of designs chosen, by the pupils. The system upon which the classes are conducted enables pupils to develop their individual tastes and to carry out the construction of any articles they may personally require, under the guidance and advice of the Board’s instructor, Mr Stricken, and the local supervisor, the Kev. A. Harding. A favourite piece of furniture among pupils seems to he the Morris chair, probably because of its simplicity of design and handsome appearance when well flushed. Bedsteads and children’s' cots, hall stands, occasional tables, palm stands, and so on, are among the articles regularly in the Course of construction, and the equally useful if less pretentious step-ladder and food safe have their devotees. It may be noted that a new term commences on Thursday next, and those desirous of joining up with the class can obtain full particulars as to fees, etc., from the local supervisor. Returned soldiers receive tuitiorf free.
