For the first time in England an aeroplane was recently offered for sale at auction at Hendon. Bidding rose to £475, but, as the reserve was £SOO, the machine was withdrawn. Sixteen Government aeroplanes — . six Avros and ten Armstrong Whitworths, in good flying condition — were sold by auction at Hendon recently for prices ranging from £OO to £3OO. The first machine, an Avro, was knocked down to the Cambridge School of Aviation for £3OO, and the last machine, a singleseater De Haviland, went to Lieutenant Llumeridge, superintendent of the aircraft salvage depot at Hendon, for the surprisingly small sum of £OO. Mr Grahame-White purchased two De Havilands, fitted with Curtis engines, for £95 and £BS respectively.
