SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
On Saturday a seven-aside team and a fifteen from the Foxton school visited Palmerston North and Rangiotu respectively, the former team to cjompete in the annual seven-a-side tournament under the auspices of the Manawatu Schools R.U., and the latter team to play a combined country team from Himitangi, Bainesse and Rangiotu schools. This game was won by Foxton by 13 points to 5. Tries were scored for Foxton by S. Thompson (2) and McMurray, and the former converted two tries. Grammar scored for the combined team. In the seven-aside tournament the local boys were up against a hard proposition, but they played their way through mud and slush into the final, and after a very hard tussle against Terrace End on a greasy quagmire of a ground, with torrents of rain to keep them cool, they managed to beat the Terrace End boys by a force to nil, after the game had gone extra time to decide supremacy. Good football under the conditions was quite impossible, but both teams handled and kicked well, some short passing runs even being attempted. At the conclusion of the final, the Pirani Shield was presented to, the Poxton team by Mr Buchler, president of the Manawatu Schools Union, and in a brief speech congratulated the Foxton boys upon their game.
