In connection with the efforts of the Fox'ton Chamber of Commerce in endeavouring to have goaisrue dechu’cd a noxious weed, the following reply to the Chamber’s request has been received from Mr C. J. Reakes, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce: — “I am directed by the Hon, W. D. S. MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and of Industries and Commerce, to .acknowledge receipt of your letter of 26th ultimo with reference to having the plant, ‘goaisrue,’ declared a noxious weed, and to inform you that action in this direction rests with the local body concerned, which may, by special order, declare any plant specified in the third schedule of the Act to be a, noxious weed within the district under its- jurisdiction. I may mention that goatsrue was declared a noxious weed by the Woodville County Council in March, 1916” ’
