CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.) Sii’. —In your report of the discussion on the question of further accommodation by the School Committee, appears the statement of the Chairman that the tlrin he represents vacated the Masonic Hall for the specific purpose of letting it he * used as a class-room. Now, Sir, I happen to know that that statement is contrary to fact, for while during the shipping shoi’tage it was leased by his firm for storage purposes with the right of renewal, does not signify that his firm has the disposal of the hall, because that lease expired some months back, and has not been renewed. To my mind the statement of the Chairman is nothing more nor less than an attempt to mislead the public at the expense of another person, with a little bit of self-adula-tion thrown in, and, further, though the general public may not be aware of it, the statement made is but an incident in what is going on behind the scenes in an effort to discredit others whose interest in the education of the children has been proved by years of service on the Committee and practical work done in the children’s interests. When we see public life and educational administration used for ulterior purposes it becomes necessary to\ unmask certain individuals and stop squirts of venom engendered by private grievances. In regard to accommodation, it is curious that after eight months it is suddenly discovered that more rooms are needed. Has the numbers on the roll increased by fifty 1 ? That kind of camouflage won’t work, it's part of the game. Getting back to accommodation, what is the local representative on the Board doing? Surely he has not gone back into that long slumber from which he was awakened by strains from that piano, Avhicb proved such a tine stunt at the School Committee election, in which he took such a foremost part. In conclusion, I would suggest that a petition be drawn up by the Chairman, seeing that he is such an expert in that line, demanding the Board to find rooms, which is their dutv, or resign.—l am, etc., E. G. M All TIN.

Sir. —In Tuesday's "Her aid*’ ihere appears an item to the effect that a theft had been committed on Sunday night from the window of a Chinese fruiterer. In another part of the paper appears a statement by Cr. Coley having reference to the fact. Cr. Coley’s inference is that children were being blamed for an offence which was committed by ; young men from 18 years to 20 years of age. Well, Sir, Cr. Coley lias cither said too much or-not enough, but in any case be'has said sufficient to justify the police in asking him to assist them to clear up the matter. Thanking you in anticipation. —1 am, etc., NUFF SED.

'Sir. —I take Mr Fame's statement to the School Committee re j\rdliodist schoolroom as an insult to myself and the church I have the honour to represent. Such a state' meat could only he made hy a person ignorant of facts. I am not surprised when some people hurl insults at ministers and churches, but I did not expect such reference ■from so distinguished and eminent a person as the master of the Foxton school—“the teacher” par excellence of the Wanganui Education Board, according to Mr Pirani. Mr Alexander and (I am informed) Mr / Furrie stated they had examined the room. They have not been inside it. If they have, how did they get in? And from whom did they get the key ? Scores of people who have been in the room know what value to put upon Mr Furrie’s statement. On behalf of the trustees I inyite the School Committee, or any other person, to view the room and Judge for themselves. Thanking Voli in anticipation. —Yours, etc., 9 A. HARDING.
