FLAXMILLERS ' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the N.Z. Flaxmillers' Association was held at Palmerston N, on Tuesday afternoon. There were present: Messrs H. Berry (chairman), W. Ross, A. King, R. T. Bell, S. Liggins, H. * Akers, W. Nye, and 11. Seifert. Apologies were received from Messrs Gardner, E. Nash, and R. McMurray. The annual report, which was adopted, ran as follows; — “During the year twelve general and two executive meetings were held. The yellow leaf disease has forced itself upon the notice of the Association. Dr. Cockayne and other scientists have devoted considerable time to investigations, and have endeavoured to discover a remedy. The former has also prepared a paper on the subject, which paper has been placed before members. The cost of these investigations was undertaken by certain millers individually, and these gentlemen have agreed to pass on to the Association any information likely to be beneficial. Labour and wages have also claimed a considerable amount of the attention of your Association, and members arc fully cognizant of the attitude taken by the ' Association. Several millers have devoted a considerable amount of time and attention to hemp pressing and standardisation of bales, and recommendations, have been made to the Agricultural Department, in an endeavour to meet the requirements of buyers overseas, in the matter of size and weights of bales. The Mangahao hydro-elec-tric scheme has received the hearty support of your Association. Many attempts have been made to obtain a reduction in freights, but so far without success. Representations have been made to the Government, urging them to endeavour to prevent any undue or unnecessary delays in transmission and receipt of cables.” The election of officers resulted as follows; —President, Mr R. T. Bell: vice-president, Mr S, Liggins; treasurer,' Mr H. Akers; executive, Messrs 11. Berry, H. Seifert, A. Seifert, W. Ross, A. Ross, C. H, Speirs, J. Liggins, W. Nye, and A. King; auditors, Messrs Rutherford and Connell.

E. Healey and Co., Melbourne, wrote, re tow quotations, and the letter was referred to individual members.

The secretary was instructed to write millers and kindred associations notifying that Dr. Cockayne’s report on the yellow leaf disease was available for perusal at the secretary’s office. A hearty vote of thanks Avas accorded to the retiring chairman, Mr H. J. Berry,
