VOLUNTEER NURSING RESERVE.
Some time since a local volunteer nursing reserve was formed with the object of training those willing to give their services in the event of an epidemic, and to instruct those willing to learn in the art of nursing the sick. Mrs Raine, an experienced nurse, undertook to give a series of lectures and demonstrations. About ,30 ladies attended the class of instruction, which was held every week in the Council Chamber’, The keenest interest was evinced by all and the experience gained should be of lasting benefit. At the conclusion of the last lecture of the series, last night, the members of the class presented Mrs Raine with a cakestand, suitably inscribed, as a token of appreciation. In acknowledging the gift, Mrs Raine said it had been a very great pleasure to meet the class each week. Mrs MeMurray, who had carried out the duties of Iron, secretary, was made the recipient of a pair of vases, and Miss Isabel Sexton, who had assisted as “patient” in demonstration work, was given a silver bangle.
