GERMANY’S VITAL STATISTICS.
Some belated statistics are seeing the light with ' regard to German birth-rates and death-rates. In Berlin between 1913 and 1917 the birth-rate dropped 55 per cent., while the death-rate increased over 15 per cent;, apart altogether from the war’s claims. The deaths largely exceeded the births in 1917, and doubtless the position was aggravated in 1918. But she will have a worse tale to tell before the record is complete. Prior to the war her population was increasing by about 750,000 a year; and since then her numbers have been dhyinished; and on top of that comes the dismemberment under the Peace Treaty.
