FOXTON-WELLINGTON TRADE.

STEAMER PURCHASED.

The recently formed WellingtonManawatu Shipping (50., Ltd., have completed arrangements for the purchase from the Anchor Company of the steamer Kennedy, for the Foxton-Wellington trade. The purchase price was £5,000. The Company,' which -was formed at a meeting held in Foxton last week, obtained an option over the Kennedy, and Mr Signal, of Foxton, went to Nelson, where the vessel was undergoing overhaul, to make an inspection, and if his report was favourable the steamer was to be purchased. Mr Signal forwarded his report to Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., who are acting for the new Company, and they completed the deal on Tuesday afternoon. The Kennedy. is to go to Wellington shortly to go on the slip to complete her overhaul, and will then .he taken on the Foxton-Wellington running. Tiie Kennedy is an iron twinscrew steamer of 220 tons gross, and 131 tons net. She was built by the Australian S.N. Company at Sydney, in 1805, and lias been owned for some years by the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company, Ltd., Nelson. The principal dimensions are: Length 138 ft. 4in., breadth Iflft. 4in., depth Oft.
