PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

All arrangements are well in hand for the Peace Celebrations to be hold on Saturday and Monday next. 'On Saturday morning a procession will form up in Main Street and proceed to the racecourse, where sports ■will be hold. On Saturday evening there will bo a display of fireworks in Per'rean’s paddock, at the rear of the school, and a bonfire will be lit by the Life-saving Scouts, On Monday (he children will lie enter- \ tained at a picnic and sports in Victori a Park. If the day should prove xvet, the children Avill be entertained the ToAvn Hall. On Monday evon- ' ing a concert Avill be held in the Town Hall. There Avill not be any charge for admission to any of the functions. TRIBUTE TO THE HONOURED DEAD. The Mayor has received the folloAving telegram from the Hon. G, W. Russell, Minister for Internal Affairs : “I have the honour to inform you that it has been decided by Cabinet that the people of New Zealand should be asked lo suspend all functions, activities and celebrations throughout the Dominion on Peace Celebrations Day, Saturday, 19th July, ‘from twelve noon until five minutes past that hour, in memory of the brave men belonging lo the naval and military forces of Great Britain and her Allies, and especially of the New Zealand soldiers, the men of the mercantile marine, and also the noble army of nursing sisters and other heroic and devoted men and Avomen Avho sacrificed their lives in the cause of liberty, freedom and justice. During the period stated all processions should stop, all activities cease, and all transport sendees, motor cars, and vehicles cease running. All male persons should uncover their heads, and all persons should stand in reverential silence during that period as a tribute to the honoured dead.
