BOROUGH WORKS.

ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT

The road foreman (Mr A. G. Huntley) reported as follows at *Monday night’s Council meeting;— During the past month we have completed metalling in Baker Street and Norbiton Road, and the lower end of Main Street. \Ve have also been engaged in patching holes in Avenue Road, Sandon Road and Park Street. "We have planted iceplant in sand cuttings in Johnston, Futter, Brown and Russell Streets. The footpath in Main Street opposite the new shops has been patched with tarred metal, but we were unable to complete the work owing to the weather, and not having the facilities for heating tar and getting the sand dried. The footpath in Liddell Street has been somewhat cut up by carting tow from the Masonic Hall; the footpath in Avenue Road has also suffered by material being carted for the bowling green. Owing to the railway service being cut down, wc arc unable 410 get more metal at present. There is a. small quantity in the yard for patching the worst of the ruts as they appear. During the input h I propose repairing footpaths in various streets and straightening up and cleaning water tables, patting triangle in order at top of Alain Street, and general maintenance work. Cr. MeAluvray said Avhere the footpaths had been cut up through being carted over, those responsible for (he damage should be called upon to repair same. X The Town Clerk said that he had mentioned the matter to Air Kcllow, local manager for Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., who had carted the tow from the Masonic Hall, and the reply lie had received was if the Council would get the necessary repairs done Alossvs Levin and Co., Ltd., would hear the cost of same. Ho had also approached the secretary of the Bowling Chib, who had stated that he would put the matter before his commit toe. The report was adopted.
