Forty- seven tons of coal was carbonised, yielding 11,200 ft. per ton. MANAGER’S REPORT.
The Manager’s report as follows was adopted: —The amount of gas manufactured during the month of June shows a slight decrease as against the previous month, and also against the corresponding month of last year. I had to cut and clear six services last month, on account of same being filled with sand and moisture. I am getting a number of meters not registering each month, but you must expect it from now on, as the life of the present make of meters being eight or nine years, the leather diaphragms perish. I am stamping the year on each motor, as I replace them, so that in the future when reading short you will have some idea of the length of time they have been in use. 1 am in receipt of a letter from the Town Clerk, re the advisability of cutting off street lamps. I am of the opinion that it would he wise to curtail in this direction, as the supplies of coal arc becoming more uncertain each week. I have completed the the plan of borough showing the gas mains, and find that there are nineteen blind ends of main which is the cause of having to carry so much pressure on the (own, and I would suggest at some future date, when piping becomes cheaper, a scheme for connecting some of these ends up, and thus reduce the pressure, which will also reduce some of the unaccounted for gas. You will notice that (he unaccounted for gas is a little higher this month, due to loss through clearing services.
