PRESENTATION
TO CAPTAIN HARVEY,
At the conclusion of yesterday afternoon’s meeting in connection with the formation of a shipping company to carry on the WellingtonFoxton trade, the Mayor (Mr John Chrystall), on behalf of the citizens of Foxton, made a presentation of a purse of sovereigns to Captain E. J. Harvey, as a .mark of the esteem in which he is hold locally. In doing so the Mayor read the following letter which was handed to (ho recipient with (he presentation:— “To Captain E. J. Harvey. “Dear Captain Harvey.—We desire to convey to you our sincere appreciation of your many acts oF goodfellowship and kindness during your long and successful connection with Foxton and the port. After so many years, and as one of the pioneers of the opening of sea-borne traffic between Wellington and Foxton (particularly with your old friend the s.s. Queen of the South), and upon your retirement from active service as master, we cannot let (he opportunity pass without recognising in some way' the bond of friendship always with us, and to ask you to accept this and the small token as a reminder of past days and to wish you and yours years of good health and happiness. Yours sincerely, on behalf of the subscribers, JOHN CHRYSTALL, Mayor.” Captain Harvey, in acknowledging the presentation, said that as making a speech was not in his line, he could not express his thanks as he would like to ,Imt assured the Mayor that he appreciated very much the kindly sentiment that prompted the presentation.
