FLAXWORKERS’ DISPUTE.

Mr A. J. Jeffreys writes as follows to our Palmerston contemporary:— “Sir.—The report of the settlement of the llaxraills dispute, which appeared in yesterday’s issue of your paper does not give Mr Moses Ayrton the credit due to him for his efforts in bringing about a conference and a final settlement. Prior to Mr Ayrton’s offer to act as conciliator the prospect of an early settlement was very remote. Both sides were marking time, although it only needed the appearance of a third person to bring (hem together. Mr Ayrton filled that position admirably. As a result of his energy a conference was arranged for the following day, Thursday, July 3rd, with the result that a settlement was brought; about upon terms acceptable to both sides. I think it due to Air Ayrton that the part taken by him be made public. As a tlaxworker, and one of the representatives of the union at the conference, f tender to Mr Ayrton my appreciation of his services in bringing about (he conference, and the early settlement of the dispute.” Air R. T. Bell, in reply to the above, writes; — ' ' “Sir. —I notice a loiter appearing in this morning's paper, and signed by A. J.
